About the Project

As we looked forward to reconnecting in person, we decided to mark the moment by exploring how the community emerged after another world event.

Over the last year, residents ranging from 5-80 years old have been researching the changing face of the High Street since the 50s. As rationing ended, sweet shop returned, migration expanded what we could eat and purchase – how did Tooting become the community we know today?

Residents of all ages have been sharing memories, recording stories and finding creative ways to curate their heritage.
